Celebrating our child welfare professionals

We honor our unsung heroes all year long!

Nyasha Nedd Wright

I’ve always worked with children in some capacity but never thought I would end up being responsible for keeping them safe from harm.

My best memories of being a Dependency Case Manager Supervisor at Children’s Home Society of Florida are creating forever families through adoption and sending kids home to their families when it’s safe. But there is one story that sticks out in my mind as the best experience working in child welfare. I helped reunite a father and son when the courts doubted his ability to be a parent. The mother was intellectually low functioning and could not be reunified with the child. However, we worked our hardest with the mom and dad along with a translator and the foster parents to make the reunification a possibility. The father stepped up tremendously and did everything required as a single parent. Even after the case closed, the mother called to thank me with the little English she knew because her son was able to be with his dad and out of foster care.

Moments like this remind me why I am child welfare professional.
